Commissioning Consortiums

What is a consortium?

A consortium is when organizations, institutions, or ensembles come together to split the cost of a composer’s commissioning fee. When a composer plans to write or is asked to write a new piece, they are typically given a partial payment by the consortium members when they join the consortium. Once the piece is finished, which could take months or even years to complete, the composer delivers the piece to the consortium members. They are then given the opportunity to be the first ensembles to perform the piece.

Take a look at my current consortiums Buufis and Shadows.
